Stuffing Envelopes as a Way of Saving

The So-Called Envelope Stuffing

Stuffing envelopesLook through the newspapers or employment websites and you are sure to find a number of offers asking you to stuff envelopes and make money. Many people have fallen for these advertisements. Losing money on this deal happens more often than not. It is possible to apply this theory to saving money? This may be a new concept to some people, as they tend to think they must have more money, rather than hold on to what they do have. The following tips could be habit forming over time.

I Do Not Have Enough Money

Many people are in debt due to a lack of savings, and if you ask them why they do not have any savings, the most likely answer you will get is “I do not make enough money to save”. Debts exist even for those people who are earning more than $ 45,000 per year. What could possibly be the explanation for this? The answer is obvious because they do not have a plan to manage expenses in a proper way and save money. You can have fun by stuffing envelopes and saving money at the same time. Saving money can become a habit if you do this consistently.

Just a Habit

Before you get started, you will need some envelopes and a pen or pencil. Upon getting paid for the month, do not yet deposit your check in your account. Instead of depositing it, cash it out at the bank. Create a budget for the month when you return home. Keep the required amount of money in envelopes, for every expense that is on your budget. A budget of 500 dollars can go into one envelope. And then you would put rent into another one, and so on. Make sure you put the money into each labeled envelope. If your wages are paid bi-weekly, divide your payments into two when you stuff the envelopes. You are now well prepared to start saving your money.

Using Money Wisely

Once you have stuffed the envelopes based on estimates of expenses, be prepared for your actual expenses differing slightly from your estimates. Please make sure you note the actual expense on the envelope, when you open the same for any expense. Whenever you do this, the money in the envelope diminishes; leaving you an idea of how much is left. Any substitutions from one envelope to another will destroy this entire activity. Cut down on any expense from which the money in that particular envelope runs out. Your envelopes for rent and utilities will be empty from the start, as these are not estimates by any means. Do not take out any money from your account after you have deposited any leftover money. You are allowed to withdraw your paycheck and not the money you had saved. A habit of saving money will help you in the long term, even if right now, you do not think you have enough. You will have no idea about where your money is going if you use your debit or credit card consistently, and this may help you in a more concrete manner. Accumulate some savings in your account by continuing with this habit over a period of time.
